Local Context
Bullying at little village high school make student feel unsafe. We have bullying occurrences every day. One Social Justice Student, who will remain anonymous, said that he doesn't want to go to lunch for the reason that he does want to get bullied by this other student. The school wants to create a safe environment and well supported and help student who are getting bullied. Little village high school offers programs, like BAM and Enlace. The school offers counseling both in groups and individual. They are great programs that will make you feel safe and provide the help that student need to get through their situation.
According to the origins of bullying (2012) “In 2001, The Journal of the American Medical Association reported that more than 160,000 students skip school every day because they are anxious and fearful of being bullied by other students. School is supposed to be a safe haven where learning takes place not where a student has to defend themselves from peers because of differences.” People are hurt physically, emotionally and mentally. Physically bullies have been known to beat up other students to release the anger they have inside. This can result in students being hospitalized or permanently injured. Emotionally, bullying can change a person's outlook on life from good to bad. Mentally students who are bullied may not do as well academically. Students might be more likely to drop out and not be in the one place they are most likely to receive services.
